Heartbreak and Blessings

This week has been full of heartbreak and blessings.  We had the opportunity to speak with a birthmother on the phone yesterday.  She loved our profile and hoped that her child could become a part of our family.  We were so excited about the opportunity!  Before speaking to her, we prayed that we would all know if adopting her child was God’s will; and we prayed that we would be able to show her the love of Christ.

God truly answered our prayers.  The birthmother, whom I will call P, was sweet and vulnerable.  We talked for a long time, and she wept while we prayed over her.  I know that P felt Christ’s love.  P had made a decision to follow Christ many years ago, but had fallen away from following Jesus.  She had made a lot of bad decisions.  P shared with us that she knew that only Christ could help her get her life back on track.  It really was a wonderful conversation, and we were very hopeful about the adoption.

But as we continued to pray, the Lord made clear to us that P’s baby was not to be ours.  Honestly, it was confusing and hard.  We would never want to turn away a child in need, and we want to be open to whatever God has for us.  But we had to come to grips with the fact that just as God has a specific child for our family, He also has a specific family for P’s child.

Her situation was not the right one for our family, and we know this was not God’s will for us.  The following morning we called our social worker and told her that we could not adopt P’s child.  We feel heartbroken over the fact that we had to turn down this sweet baby, but we also have peace that we did the right thing.  We will continue to pray for P, and we ask you to do the same.

I also had a very special blessing this week.  A Sunday school class at our church had a social, and they asked me to come sell our adoption bracelets from the Apparent Project.  I had such a sweet time of fellowship with these godly ladies!  I was able to share with them about our adoption story.  I talked with them about how God calls us all to minister to the fatherless.  Then I shared with them about the Apparent Project and showed them an amazing video about this ministry.  If you haven’t seen this video, you have got to check it out and see what God is doing in Haiti!  Go to http://www.apparentproject.org.  The video will start automatically.

These amazing ladies jumped at the chance to get involved!  They literally swarmed my selling table and bought so many bracelets!  I was so blessed by their words of encouragement and their loving support.  God blessed me mightily; and in truth, this encouragement gave me the strength to make our hard decision the next day.  God is so good!

Thank you all for continuing to support us and pray for us and our future adopted child!  What a great heritage of love he or she will have.  I cannot wait to say, “Your story may seem to have begun with a loss, but look how many people love you and worked to bring you into our family!”

We have very few bracelets left.  If you want one, you may want to move quickly!  If enough people continuing show interest, we can order more.  This is the perfect time of year to order flower bulbs from our Flower Power fundraising site.  Coffee is also for sale, and I hope t-shirt sales will begin next week!  Thank you again for all of your support and love!
